Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety
The Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DMIRS) was formed on 1 July 2017, as a result of merging the Department of Commerce and Department of Mines and Petroleum. DMIRS’ mission is to support a safe, fair and responsible future for the Western Australian community, industry and resources sector.
Fatigue management training
The online fatigue management training for commercial vehicle drivers is managed by the Safety Education team at the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety and was produced in response to the introduction of fatigue management for commercial vehicle drivers regulations that came into effect in 2003.
Learning to manage fatigue plays an important role in keeping commercial vehicle drivers and other road users safe. The online fatigue management training aims to create awareness of the impact fatigue can have on commercial vehicle drivers and on other road users.
This fatigue management training will also assist an administrator of commercial vehicle drivers to develop a driver fatigue management plan and comply with the commercial vehicle operating standards as required by the Occupational Safety and Health Regulations 1996.
Both commercial vehicle drivers and administrators of commercial vehicle drivers also have general duties to ensure workplace health and safety under the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1984 and the Occupational Safety and Health Regulations 1996.
